Led by True Ventures, a Silicon Valley-based VC and support from Skype’s and Atomico’s founder Niklas Zennström, AgriTech Startup WeFarmis that’s currently active in Kenya and Uganda has raised more money towards its Seed round with an additional $5m and plans to expand into other areas of Eastern and Sub-Saharan Africa.

Other private investors in the round included WordPress’ founder Matt Mullenweg, Blue Bottle Coffee CEO Bryan Meehan, The Norrsken Foundation alongside early backer LocalGlobe and Accelerated Digital Ventures (ADV).

WeFarm operates a crowdsourced peer-to-peer network for offline farming communities and uses machine learning to source content and knowledge from a network of farmers amounting to over 670,000 with over 72 million messages shared, over 1 million answers given and over 840,000 questions asked.

WeFarm will also use the newly secured funds to develop commercial product offerings and work on new features.
